G.S.R. 737(E).- In exercise of the powers conferred by section 83 of the Standards of Weights and Measures Act, 1976 (60 of 1976) , the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Standards of Weights and Measures (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 1977, namely:-

1. (1) These rules may be called the Standards of Weights and Measures (Packaged Commodities) Amendment Rules, 2008.

    (2) They shall come into force immediately from the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.

2. In the Standards of Weights and Measures (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 1977, in sub clause (f) of the clause (i) of the rule 6, the following proviso shall be inserted, namely:-

“Provided that for the packages containing alcoholic beverages or spirituous liquor, the State Excise Laws and the rules made hereunder shall be applicable within the State in which it is manufactured and where the State excise laws and rules made thereunder do not provide for declaration of retail sale price, the provisions of these rules, shall apply.”
